I finally started my socks last night… soo much stuff going on. My parents are here now. My mom started an R2D2 (my nephews & niece want them now!) and she was asking me what kind of DPNs I used. I said none… I ended up showing her the magic loop video… I don’t know if she’s going to try it or not!
Sue welcome back! You need their numbers so you can get the wool & spin it into some yummy yarn!
Steve that’s neat, maybe your Mama will try ML.
I know I love the mountains, been up there many times on the top of that mountain that I sent a pic of, the top part where the tram is is 10,678 feet; I grew up at 7,600 feet.
OK off to watch the olympics & knit another dishcloth…easy to do while watching tv. I just finished sweeping/moping the floor & will vacuum tomorrow am since Jacob’s teacher is comming at 2, I’d like the house to at least be semi picked up and the floors clean, I usually do that every other day anyway.
Morning, Jackie! Are you watching the Olympics? Someone tell me to go to bed! It’s almost midnight and I’ve still got it on. DS isn’t home yet, so my excuse is that I’m waiting up. Or when he gets home, I’ll just tell him I was watching the Olympics, not waiting up!:roflhard:
Welcome back, Sue! Where all did you go on your trip?
Steve, isn’t it fun to teach others new knitting techniques? Did your mom originally teach you to knit? My mom got me back into it a few years ago and now I knit circles around her (when I can!). She just does the same stuff over and over.
DD and I stopped at Hobby Lobby today. They’re finally getting some natural fiber yarns that are NICE! I picked up a skein of I Love This Cotton for $1.99. 100 grams, 180 yards, 100% cotton and SUPER soft!! I thought I’d make a dishcloth or something to try it out. I can’t get over how SOFT it is! They also had some nice sock yarns!
With all the Olympics on, you’d think I’d get a ton of knitting done. I did NONE today. I did sew the shoulder seams of my Drops Cardigan. The first one went in quickly, but the second one took FOUR stupid tries!:wall: It looks good now, though. I’m still not sure what to do with the bamboo top. I’m thinking of just finishing it, since that way my time would not have been wasted. Of course, I think I’ll buy some more yarn in a different color for one for me.
Steve~That’s great that your mom was wanting to learn ML :happydance:
Julie~Very pretty
Karina~I joined MS4 maybe I’ll get this one done :oo:
Gina~I’ve been the same way with the Olympics…yesterday I was trying to clean house before they came on at 10…didn’t make it so then had to keep running and do this and then run back to the tv (thankfully we have tivo) Then last night I thought ok I’ll just record it and stayed up till after midnight again :teehee:…I’m going to be one tired gal if I keep this up till they end
jess_hawk~I know we rewinded the race and watched it twice
Hi Everyone!
This morning I’m off to town for a dr’s visit booo…then I need to pick up a few things at the store till I can go on Friday for 2wks of groceries…I’ve been working on my smackdown sock…it’s easy sock and pattern but I just keep getting sidetracked (olympics)
I still have photos to get up here too of my dishrags and yarn we dyed and the bird n hand mittens…maybe this afternoon I can :teehee:
O Gina I think that’s a good idea 'bout the red top, if I’d gone that far I’d cry if I had to Please let me know what you think of “I love this cotton” yarn, that’s almost 2 times the amount of yarn than the sugar n cream at Walmart for $1.27 for 56 gr. (70g in solids) wonder if it pills? Does it have acrylic in it or is it just cotton?
I’ve been making dishcloths like crazy-4 done now & a pair of crochet pot holders, just since the olympics started. I really wanna do some socks though. & I co and knit 2 rows on Dh’s slippers (FT felted clogs) yesterday but the kids were anything but angels and wouldn’t sleep or let me concentrate on counting the sts for his darn slipper. O well, maybe after the olympics I’ll get it done. Then again I still need to do Mom’s vest too. maybe socks would be good to take to school with me & work on between classes, I have 40 min between. I’m not one that can concentrate on a pattern and listen to a lecture, tried that at home & it didn’t work, I didn’t hear a word from the tv lecture.
ETA the top is the one Grandma claimed, the middle is mine (in use at the sink now) & the bottom one I made last night for Brian.
sorry the pics aren’t the greatest, they’re taken on the phone camera
My mom is hesitant! She’s decided she’s going to finish the R2D2 hat and a sweater she’s working on before she starts anything new. So no ML for now. She wants to try the 2 At A Time socks book, though. I offered to lend her the #4 needles out of my Harmony set so she could do the sample project, and she said no, she was going to wait till she finished everything. I basically learned off the internet, just last year.
Julie, the I Love This Cotton yarn is 180 yards and 100 grams, so it’s nearly twice as much as Sugar 'n Cream. It’s SO soft! It is 100% cotton. It feels almost too nice for dishcloths! I think I’ll make one, though, just to try it out. They have some GORGEOUS colors! Very saturated. I’ll make a dishcloth to see if it fades or pills.
I ordered the yarn from Webs today for another bamboo lacy top. Their colors are so hard to tell online. I think it’s a dark pink/fuscia color. I also ordered Kathmandu DK for another CPH. Love the sales!
Good morning everybody! Just checking in while I eat my breakfast, then I have the day off from work so I get a whole day of knitting! :woot: I’m determined to finish at least knitting my tunic. (Wish me luck!) I’ve got a little of the back left, then the sleeves and hem line won’t take too long, so I should be able to finish those today, then hopefully sew it up on Wednesday or Thursday after work. Oh! and I got my yarn dyed for my socks, finally! It’s about this color and it’s just absolutely perfect! So, once the shirt is done, I’ll start on my socks.
Julie, I didn’t see your picture of the mountains the last time I posted, it’s b-e-a-utiful! I can’t wait to eventually have my house in the country and be able to take gorgeous pictures like that!
Good luck to all the Olympic dishcloth knitters! I’ve been watching swimming and track and field, but don’t have the time or yarn to be able to knit that many dishcloths! I wish I did!!
Julie - I can’t believe anybody is so lucky to wake up to a view like that every morning, it is beautiful.
dustina - have you joined the ravelry ms4 group yet. my name over there id daisey27, don’t post to much mostly read what everybody is saying. seem to have a big following of people that does it every year.
While reading all the post on ravelry I also found out about the secret of the stole III. just had to join that as well. that starts on Friday so I am frantically trying to swatch for that as well. so I can practically guarantee that I won’t be able to finish on time but I will have the patterns on file.
Sue did you stay with your son. maybe if the alpacas are owned by neighbours you will get a good deal on some wool.
Doncha hate when you have your reply all ready to post and then it disappears?!?:hair:
I have more things OTN than ever…Fisherman Ripple Afghan, Campfire Socks, Red Bud Dishcloth, Alita Throw.
The Fisherman Ripple Afghan is for my mom from the garage sale Red Heart. I’m using I Love This Cotton on the dishcloth and it is sooooo soft…I’m knitting it Continental (after watching Amy’s videos).
Oh yeah, I’m using DPN on one of the socks and ML on the other. IMO, way to many needles to fiddle :noway:with but it sure looks cool.
I’m considering frogging the socks… I’ve done the top ribbing, and it looks fine, but I think it’ll be too tight when it’s pulled all the way up. I may try with a larger needle and then switch back to the “correct” size after a couple inches.
whew today has been a long ol’ day! Jd is having car problems made it to work and now trying to make it home so we don’t have to get it towed somewhere. I had to run my car out for an oil change so he could take it tomorrow and until they figure out what is wrong with his. They couldn’t get it in the shop till Thursday :teehee: …then mix in going to the dr and a lawn mower blade bent…and well you have my day…oh and kids wearing out the road between the 2 houses…
Anyways, it took me awhile to post photos of my dishrags in the olympic kal…and then another long time to get the mittens up…and then on ravelry :wall: with stuff distracting me in between so I cheated…and all the photos are up on my blog with WV photos mixed in :teehee:
Karina~I signed up there too…I’ll go look for ya …I’m going to do mine in a dark purple and then I still have the beads from last year 'cause I decided not to add them last minute :oo:
Steve~If it’s on ML you could try it on and see how it feels around the calf…I do this a lot
Julie~My grandmother claimed one of my dishrags…I was working on it at her house
Gina~I can’t wait to see the new yarn…I hadn’t heard of the I love this cotton
Carla~I’d love to see a photo of the ML and dpns on the sock :happydance:
Bobbi~I hope you got to work on your tunic today :happydance:
Hi everyone (where is everyone?)
okey dokey…so I’m going to go set outside now and knit on that crazy smackdown sock…I’d rather be finishing the mittens for the olympics…this will keep me from pacing till JD comes in or bitting my nails (knitting has helped me break that icky habit almost) :oo:
We’re here, I think everyone must be busy today, and for the last few days-maybe they’re all watching the olympics?
I read your blog just now and enjoy seeing your pics, left you a comment.
Jacob starts pre-k next Mon & is super excited. Turns out his teacher goes to our church! Now I’m excited & I can ‘trust’ her, because I know her from church. yippee! Anyway we got his first backpack today, Lightning McQueen-o boy the fun begins. The teacher & her assistant stopped by this afternoon to meet Jacob & left him with a calendar of August so he can cross off the days before school. He’s ready to jump through the roof.
On another note, tonight is knit night at the close LYS (4 miles away, I think) so I’m going, it starts at 5, but I prolly wont go till 7 b/c Brian has to come home first-wish him luck with Caitlin. I can’t wait!!! (Finally Chris I took your advice, & this is only a once a month thing, so that’s why it took so long) what should I take? probably dishrags
Dustina, I started the socks 2 @ a time ML but I wanted to try out my new DPNs so I put one sock on them and left the other on the ML. I’m using 4 DPNs and knitting with the 5th…I’ll finish the one sock with DPNs…but will probably stick with the ML in the future. I just get tried of having to hunt for the one I drop down in my recliner.
The KnitPicks DPNs are really nice though and I’m glad I have them.
:waving: I’m here too, just popping in to lurk mostly. Youngest DD left today to return to college, so this past week has been busy getting everything ready. She drove herself out to Indiana (12 hours) and called around 7pm to let us know she made it safely. She checked in every time she hit a rest stop, so I was able to talk to her every 3-4 hours. Now I can relax…
Dustina-Welcome home! I’ll have to check out your blog for your pics. Sounds like you had a crazy day.
Julie-How exciting for Jacob’s preschool! He’ll have so much fun The picture of the mountains is beautful.
Gina-Your son getting ready for school? How far away is he going?
Hi to everyone! Hope you are having a great night and :knitting: .
Morning, i m here:woot:
I m in the Olympics, are you ? :knitting: Spring Forward. Oh, first time using a 2mm (US0), so skinny , tat it was slight bended it a few time while i do the SSK and K2tog :roflhard: guess my force is with me :gah:
Dustina - Hi dear, nice to see u r back. How your holiday and your folks ? I will check your blog later.
Julie - It wil be a new experience for Jacob. I m sure he will love it.
Steve - How’s your weekend with the kids ? Fun ? and more Fun !
Bobbi, cool yarn color! Have you had a fun day knitting?
Karina, the secret stoles sound fun.
Carla, I DO hate it when I write a long post and it disappears! SOMETIMES (using Foxfire) I can get try again and it will come back, but not always. That Knotions is pretty good! Thanks for the link!
Dustina, great blog post! Thanks for all the pics. BTW, on the KP sock blanks, try starting from the OTHER end if the end you start on catches on the corners. They say one side will catch and the other won’t. Your mittens are BEAUTIFUL! I like your yarn from SWTC! Hope the car is okay and doesn’t cost much!
Julie, you’re right. It’s been a busy day. I got my eyes checked and ordered glasses. Haven’t had new one in five years, so it was time! I’m so happy for you that you know DS’s teacher. Always a good feeling to know they’re in good hands!
Lisa, my DS and DD both start school on the 25th, but DS has to be there on the 21st. He will be going to Houston Baptist University, not too far from home. DD goes to school at Stephen F. Austin University about 3 hours away.
Hi Jackie! I haven’t watched much of the Olympics today. Too busy!
I DID get some knitting done today, though. Waiting at the Eye Dr., helping DD with making an apron, etc. I wish I was faster. I have almost half a washcloth done and about 4" on the cardigan sleeve. Tomorrow will be an extremely busy day. Hope y’all have good knitting time!
Ugh! I didn’t get NEARLY as much knitting done as I wanted to today. I did finally finish the back of my shirt, so tomorrow I’ll be able to pick up the stitches for the edging and hem lines, and we’ll see when I get it sewn up. I just couldn’t get much done, I’ve been getting really bad pains in my hand whenever I knit. It just started yesterday, but has gotten a lot worse today. Maybe I need a knitting break…:verysad:
No pictures yet of the finished orange yarn or the shirt, but I promise I’ll get something up soon!
