YO when next stitch is purl?

Help needed again!

I’m messing with the lacy pattern bit of a sweater pattern, trying to decide if I want to do the whole pattern. It’s pretty!

However, there are parts where the ‘yo’ is followed by ‘p’ - and I can’t seem to do this neatly. It doesn’t ‘sit’ in the same way as a yo followed by a knit stitch, and I’m wondering if there’s a knack to it that I’m missing!

You could pick up the YO on the next row if your not happy with the way it looks…Just when you get to that part of the pattern remeber to pick up the yarn that goes between the st on the needle and the st you just worked…(this will make the YO hole smaller though)

There isn’t anything you have to do different when you follow a yo with a purl…have you tried working the next row? It might look neater then

This might offer some help: http://explaiknit.typepad.com/let_me_explaiknit/yarnovers/index.html

You’re supposed to take the yarn all the way around the needle, then to the front for the purl, but yes that can make the YO a little bigger. You can just loosely lay your yarn over the top of the needle from back to front, though when you get to it on the next row, you have to work it through the back leg. As long as you remember to do that, it should be closer to the same size as the YO between knit sts.

Okay, I think I was doing it wrong! I assumed it was just the ‘reverse’ of yo followed by k, so I was bringing the yarn to the back before purling the next stitch. Big hole, untidy stitches either side.

However, wrapping the needle completely, and knitting into the back of it on the next row, gives a much neater finish. So I might actually knit that sweater after all!

Thanks again for your help. You’re all wonderful!

Here is a link to the different yarn overs. there are 3 different types they are all in 1 video.

It depends on what stitches your YO’ing between
