YO? What's that mean?

I mean I know it means Yarn Over, but what does that mean? Is there something online that shows me what the heck that means or how to do it or something? THere are so many cute patterns I’ve seen that I would love to try, but they have YO in them and I don’t know how to do that.

THanks a million!

Karen

A YO is bringing the yarn over the needle and that makes an extra stitch - either an increase, or when it’s paired with a decrease it makes a lace pattern. It does leave a hole. Look at the very bottom of this page - http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/basic_techniques/increase.php, or this one http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/abbreviations_explained/ - for a description and video on how to do it.

when you yarn over, you wrap yarn around the needle as if you were going to make a stitch, but without putting the needle into the next stitch yet
normal stitch is Stick in Old stitch, yarn over, pull new loop through old stitch and pull old one off and stick in next stich to start again
Yarn over is just yarn over THEN start next stitch

words do not always work as well as Pictures
but some do better that way

just trying to help
