Yo, k 1 p 1 into next stitch

Maybe I am doing this wrong, but it says to yo, k 1, p 1 into next stitch.
When you do that, do you end up with three stitches on the needle?
I am doing yo once and then another yarn over for the purl stitch, and when I purl and knit into the same stitch I get two stitches off the needles.
So, when I look at the stitch, I have three stitches total.
Am I doing this wrong?
Thanks!

You should have 3 stitches. But it sounds like

I am doing yo once and then another yarn over for the purl stitch

… you’re doing 2 yos? And ending up with 4 sts? A yo is just laying your yarn over the needle - YO, then knit into the front of the st and purl into the back of it.

thanks so much… no no no… i only have three stitches… sorry for the bad explanation!
you’re a life saver S…
