Can you’all suggest some yarns by brand name, which are felt-able, so I can internet search and purchase. The few I’ve come across seem somewhat limited in available colors, and I think if I knew brand names, my searching would get further. I made a CUTE CUTE felted bag which I will post later when I can, but now that I’m hooked, I need to find other sources for yarn variety.
Almost any animal fiber that is not treated to make it washable will felt but I’ve heard that some other factors, like color, make a difference in how well it felts.
I have only done one felted project and used Plymouth Galway Chunky. I was very happy with how it felted and would use it again.
I just finished a felted bag using Lion Brand Fisherman’s Wool. I love how it felted and get lots of compliments on the color.
I’ve used all of these and they felt great. Just make sure you do NOT get superwash yarn of any type. It won’t felt.
Cascade 220
Knitpicks Wool of the AndesPatons Classic Wool
Have not used these -
Lion Wool
Bernat Felting Wool
The Bernat Felting wool is nice, but limited in colours - the Cascade 220 has a nice range of colours as does the Patons Classic Merino.
:knitting:
White does not felt well. I really wish I would’ve known this before I picked out the bag I finished recently!

I recently made a bag with patons classic wool and it felted FAST! keep your eyes on it. Less than 7 minutes and my bag with a bit smaller that I wanted. LOL Oh well. It turned from a shoulder bag to a date clutch like that. lol
Happy felting. It is quite addicting. and expensive. lol
i like Cascade 220 (obviously not the superwash variety) for knitting in general but it felts realy well and i think is available in a good range of colours.
Thanks everyone, this is helpful information.
I have used Paton’s Classic Merino. Cascade 220, WOA and Lambs pride Bulky
Patons is readily available in some box stores ( in my area Michael’s and Jo-Ann’s ) however not all colors are available in the stores but can be ordered online they do go on sale on ocassion
Cascade 220 is reasonable priced available in a lot of LYS and many online sources Huge color variety and very consistent, nice worsted weight
Wool of the Andes only available from KnitPicks limited but nice colors and little lighter in weight than 220 IMO good value for the price
Lambs pride Bulky has a tiny amount of mohair added so felts a little fuzzier but very nice sturdy and dense fabric
I’ve used Cascade 220, Noro Kureyon, Southwest Trading Company Karaoke, and Needful Yarns Joy. All felt very well. I don’t think Cascade’s color selection is as good as the others, but that’s just my opinion. I have found all the above on Ebay for very little $$. Can’t wait to see your bag.
