Yarn Weights

It is time for “mwah” to ask a stupid question …

As you might know, I’m working on Baby Blocks from “Our Best Knit Baby Afghans”. The pattern calls for 14 oz of sport weight. I’m starting to worry if I have enough yarn. Does anyone know approximately how many oz of worsted weight is equal to 14 oz of sport weight?? Or does it make a difference. The pattern calls for 1,760 yards of sport weight, but I’m working with leftover Lionbrand Pound of Love. There’s no way I can tell how many yards are left in this skein, but I do know that I have 14 oz. (Yes, I weighed it ;)). I’m thinking it’s enough, but I’m just not sure. :?

Any thoughts???

This is not a stupid question at all!

I went to Lion Brand’s website http://www.lionbrand.com/yarns/pound.htm . Pound of Love is 16oz= 1020yd, so proportionally, and approximately, 14oz= 893 yds. Always compare yardages and not weights (altho you might need the weight to convert to yardage like I just did). Look at it like this, for a particular weight, a thin yarn is longer yardage than a thicker yarn.

Hope this helps.

Uh oh … I think my Baby Blocks will be shorter than the pattern notes. :frowning: Oops  … Well, I have some other left over Pound of Love in pale green, so instead of using the white for the fringe, I’ll use the green. That way, I will use all of the white for the actual knitting of the blanket…

I think that will work … :?

Thank you Caroll

How about a few rows of green in pattern at both ends as well as the fringe? Just an idea. Or even in a different pattern…
