Yarn unraveling while casting on

I finished the back of my sweater and am trying to start the front. For some reason when I am casting on, my yarn keeps untwisting until the plies are basically parallel on the needle, which makes it REALLY hard to work with once I start the second row. What’s baffling me is that I’m using the same needles, same cast on method (single cast on) and even the exact same ball of yarn that I used for the back. Trying to retwist the yarn as I’m working barely seems to make a difference. And when I give up and unravel the whole thing, the yarn goes back to its normal twisted self. Any ideas?

Single cast on is the same as backward loop cast on? You might try using the other end of the yarn. I’m not sure but think it might make a difference.

It is normal that casting on will affect the twist. In most cases it can be ignored, but if you really want to do something about it, then you could let go of the needle and let it hang down so the yarn could twist itself back.

I thought of that but I roll my yarn into a ball, so I’d have to unwrap the whole ball. Which is why I’m so confused that it didn’t happen the first time. I’ll give it another try with what engblom suggested.

Let go of the yarn after every 5 or so stitches and let it untangle, then pick up and continue. This will prevent the unravelling. The more consecutive stitches you cast on without doing this, the worse it will unravel.
