I recently acquired yarn that states it was made for machine knitting. Can this yarn be hand knitted with no adverse problems?
Any yarn can be knitted or crocheted by hand, but machines are less flexible in their requirements as far as I know. I know I have several yarn cones that were meant for machines, which I’ve knitted by hand without issue - sometimes you might need to use more than one strand, though. Also, bear in mind a lot of (or maybe even all?) machine knitting yarn is “oiled” - this means you need to wash the finished object to properly finish it.
