I thought that knitting a small purse in “English Mesh Lace” wouldn’t be too difficult. However, I really am stuck with it. My question is, when you do a yarn over, is it not usually followed by a decrease of some sort? the pattern readsKnit 1, YO,SSK, Knit 1, K2tog,YO, then it is repeated.It appears to me that there are two yarn overs, and only one decrease(the K2tog). So, doesn’t this mean that I end up with an extra stitch?
I’ve never done lace knitting before, so is there something I’m missing. I know some people take classes on how to do this, but I’m not in a position to do this. Thanks for your help!
The decrease doesn’t necessarily come [I]right after[/I] the YO, though the ssk does. SSK is slip, slip, knit both slipped sts tog, also known as skp - sl 1, k1, psso. As long as you have the same number of decs as incs, the stitch numbers stay the same, though some patterns, like shawls, will have extra YOs to increase the sts.
That makes sense to me…sort of…If I slip 2 stitches on to the right needle, then, how do I knit them? I thought it meant that I slip the 2 stitches, then knit the next stitch on the left needle. But I realize that this would not be a decrease. As for the sl k psso, that makes perfect sense. I’ll try both. Thanks so much!!
Look up SSK on the decreases page. You slip the 2 sts separately, knit wise, then either slip them back to the left needle and knit them tog through the back loop, or leave them on the right needle and insert the left needle into the front of them and knit tog.
