Yarn over help

I have only increased once, and it did this same thing. When I yarn over, it creates a hole…does anyone know why this is happening? I have watched the video a few times and I think I am doing it correctly.
Thank you:-)

A yo is supposed to create a hole. It gives a lacey effect, or it may be dropped on the next row to create an elongated stitch.

Yes, you are doing it correctly if you have a hole. There are other ways of doing increases that do not leave holes if you don’t want the hole. Check the videos for the other increases like Kfb and M1.

Hi AnneMarie… The reason it creates a hole is that you are effectively adding a stitch without actually working it (i.e. knitting or purling it). As others have said, generally it’s meant to create a space and that is part of the patterning.

Thank you for the info!!! The pattern I am working on is a baby blanket and it has the yo as the border and it looks great, now that I knew I was doing it right!!! Thank you for the tips on the other increases that will not elave the holes.
