Yarn for baby hats

All you wonderful ladies out there who have knitted newborn baby caps/hats, could you share which yarn you have liked the best. Need to get started on some for my upcoming first grandchild.
Thanks, Lisa:happydance:

What kind of fiber do want to use? I usually use something washable like Plymouth Encore or if you want acrylic only then something like Caron Simply Soft, Red Heart SOFT (not supersaver).

I would personaly choose something very soft and flexible like you are saying. Also, good-luck making it, Lisa!

Thanks. I guess I was wondering what yarn any of you had used to make baby hats seemed to work the best. I have on hand some Red Heart Soft, some Bernat and a few other brands. Not sure which stretch the best and hold their shape?

There are so many wonderful baby yarns out there. Bernat and Red Heart have some of the best. Lion Brand and Premier make some of the softest, however, they are a tad bit more expensive than Red Heart.

Since the best baby yarns are acrylic for the robust ability to hold up to many washings. But there are some very nice acrylics out there now that aren’t hideously ugly. Bernat makes those huge skeins for making baby blankets, with enough left over for a hat, sweater and booties.

Thanks, since I do have some Red Heart Soft on hand think I will start with that and see what I think. I have white but of course want to have some different colors so will test with this yarn and then get some other colors. Pink of course since we know my grandchild is going to be a girl.

I just finished a super cute watermelon hat as a store model for the yarn store I work for. It was made from Spud & Chloe Sweater

It was an easy project. I hope you enjoy it as well!

Any of those yarns will make nice hats. They’re a worsted so you’d need to find a pattern for that yarn weight, or use this basic hat ‘recipe’. To determine head size, this chart works.

I have found Berroco’s Comfort yarn works great for any baby stuff - machine washable and dryable - very soft and good for sensitve skin. Great colors and great prices!!!

If you can get your hands on it…Sirdar Snuggly is a really awesome acryllic DK weight

Thank you everyone for all the wonderful suggestions and links to patterns! Will post pictures when I get some done.
