Now, I would like to find some sort of chart comparison of yarn brand equivalents. Is there such a monster?
Example: How to I learn what will substitute for Berroco HipHop if my local yarn shop doesn’t have it? I know she can help me, but i would love to have a chart reference.

I’m not sure if this is what you are looking for or not but it can come in handy.
I don’t know if there is something that tells you different brands to substitute or not, but that address I pasted in tells you the weights of yarns so you can substitute it with another of the same weight.

A great site to use for just this purpose. You can search by brand name, fiber content, etc. It gives you the gauge, which will be important to have when looking for a proper substitution. It also lists recommended needle size and generally gives all the colors available. I have this bookmarked and use it all the time.
