Wrist support

Hi,

I just started knitting and enjoy it a lot, but I am having some problems with carpal tunnel numbness in my right hand. My regular wrist brace feels too clunky to knit with. Does anyone have any suggestions for a brace that provides support, but still allows me to knit?

Thanks!

Tanya

I have never tried to knit in wrist splints so this may or may not help. I did try to knit with my hand/arm in a cast but well…If you have carpal tunnel problems you want a brace that is on the dorsal aspect or back of your hand/wrist rather than over the palm side of your hand/wrist where is can cause additional compression to the carpal tunnel. Not sure if that is what you are already wearing or if it would feel any better.

You might do well to learn a couple of different styles of knitting so that you’re not always repeating the same motion. In particular, there are styles where you hold a long needle under one arm and form stitches with the other hand. (I’ve heard it called “cottage knitting” “shepherdess knitting” and a whole lot of other terms, but they all have that in common.) If your hand gets really sore, you could do that for a while, especially if you can get about the same gauge.

Sounds interesting! I’ll look into it.
