Wrap and Turn Purgatory

I’m working a cardigan with a swingy type triangle front. The directions for the short rows include the following:

RS: K to left m, m1r, sm, k to right m, sm, m1l, k3, w&t.
WS: p to 4 sts past left m, w&t.
RS: K to left m, sm, k to right m, sm, k7, w&t.
WS: p to 7 sts past left m, w&t.

The directions go on to state:

Repeat last 4 short rows 8 more times, turning 3 sts past previous turn each time. Work in wrapped st as you pass it in the next row. The last 2 turns will occur 16 st from the end. Be careful to count 3 sts past the previous turn, not the wrap. This means you turn 2 sts past the wrap here.

My question is, I’m I supposed to work these as normal short rows with regular wraps and turns? If so, how in the world do I go about counting out where I stop knitting in the RS rows in the second, third, fourth, fifth, etc. repeats?

I have knit, unknit and reknit these rows three times now and I’m really starting to dislike this sweater. A lot.

I looked into german short rows, but really was confused when I heard I needed to switch the number of stitches I was knitting for regular w&t and german short rows.

Please help.

Can you link to your pattern?
Based on what I’m reading. Pick up the wrapped stitch, work 2 sts, w&t the 3rd st. Is that what you’ve been doing?

On German short rows you would work the st that would have been wrapped, turn your work, and pull the yarn as shown in the videos.

As for w&t purgatory…yeah, for sure.

It’s almost always a pain setting up a pattern across the first row or going through repeat pattern rows the first time. Yes, these sound like the usual w&t but you could check your pattern and make sure it doesn’t give a different definition.
What if you marked off the places for the w&t now? You could thread a contrasting color yarn or open stitch marker befroe the wrap sts.

The pattern is Vitamin D.

Where I am getting confused is the 8 short row repeats.

If these are considered rows 1 through 4:

RS: K to left m, m1r, sm, k to right m, sm, m1l, k3, w&t.
WS: p to 4 sts past left m, w&t.
RS: K to left m, sm, k to right m, sm, k7, w&t.
WS: p to 7 sts past left m, w&t.

My question is do I simply knit 3 stitches past the previous w&t on the RS rows and complete another w&t?

WS: p to 4 sts past left m, w&t.

p3, w&t the 4th st is my interpretation.

The note that you quoted above says:
“Be careful to count 3 sts past the previous turn, not the wrap. This means you turn 2 sts past the wrap here.”

You can also use the markers to help out if that’s easier.
In row 1, …slip marker m1l, k3 w&t
row 2, p to 4 sts past left m, w&t
row 3, sm, k7, w&t
row 4 …p to 7 sts past left m, w&t

Keep count of the number of sts past the marker, remembering the in row 1, you have a m1l.

I so appreciate the knowledge base here. Without the help of the expert knitters on knittinghelp I would not successfully completely a lot of projects, so for that I am exceptionally grateful.

I finally found a message board tucked away on Ravelry that had the exact stitch counts. Just in case someone else is knitting Vitamin D and is as lost as I was, you can find all the information and more about the blasted short rows here

If I had not found the stitch counts I was simply going to make it up as I went along with all of your input!
