I agree, the 16" needles seem tiny to me. I’m knitting a hat now using Magic Loop on a 40" circular and it’s going well so far.
Yeah, I’m much more comfortable with ML than those tiny 16" needles. I have a few pair, but much prefer Magic Looping!
I love my 16"ers. The difference might be that I don’t use my whole hand to hold my needles, just my fingertips, with my pinky for balance.

Knitting Guy that is why I LOVE double points… 
I hate 16" circs. I have big hands, and it feels like I’m knitting with doll needles, or something. I’ve been buying bamboo needles recently, and have 6" ones for mittens, and a couple of sets of 10" dpns for hats. I find that with certain yarns, like mohair, I prefer having a longer needle. IMO, circs are only good for large heavy things like afghans.
I use my 16" circgs for soakers and hat mostly. I tend to use them for knitting back and forth as well.
