worsted spun 100g skein, no dye work yet.

Although I had learned the short draw method of spinning I never used it, because I would much rather spin from the fold. But after talking with google AI I am now trying to spin short draw, because google AI has told me it’s better for Merino.

I am showing a 100g skein I made short draw, I had lots of trouble spinning it but now have the hang of it. The ply work gave me trouble and even broke during part of it, but my next skein should be much better.

I have not wet finished it yet, it’s about 12.4 WPI. I was going to wet finish it, at the same time doing hand dye work.

It is not a 12.4 WPI. It’s an 8 WPI yarn. And it has not been wet finished yet. It’s complete failure. I surpised though, the yarn came out with perfect balance.

I would be wary about taking advice from Google AI. I don’t know about spinning, but AI gives very bad advice about both crochet and knitting. There are several Facebook groups devoted to spinning yarn, and you’d be getting advice from actual humans.

I thru the wrongly spun yarn to the side and made a new one. Took me 3h 18m. The next will be done much faster. The problem with the other skein is the control card was wrong. I used a pen to make the marks on the control card, and the ink bleeds into the paper. My new control card was made using a pencil.

This yarn was spun with 1mm diameter, 100g merino wool, and then 2 ply from a ply bracelet. It’s not yet wet finished, I was going to do that at same time I paint it.

12WPI, 129 yards, 97 grams. It came out looking balanced.

I spent about 15 minutes making black dots on it. Then I picked it up and carried it over to the steam pot. After I placed it in the steam pot I noticed the dots ran. I am hoping it might turn out with some kind of good looking colorway even with the dye having run like it did. Next time I know to pick it up on both ends and place it in the pot to move it.

It will be done in about 40 minute, but I have let it cool for another 60 min.

Have a look at it.

10 WPI, 100grams, 109 yards, I call it ‘Chololate Milk’. It’s a #4 yarn.
