Working with two strands of yarn

I’m doin this little Halter, using two strands of worsted weight yarn and it calls for two inches of ribbing at the bottom and when I do a k2p2 ribbing it has ridges in the stockinette stitches every couple rows. Is there something I’m doing wrong or is it just because it’s double stranded?

What kind of ridges? Would you be able to post a picture so that we can tell better?

Yeah, I think a picture would help, it’s kind of hard to explain. It looks kind of like I’m doing one row of knit stitches in the purl stitches or something.

Here’s the ribbing, though it doesn’t look like I purled any stitches at all.

I see purl stitches. I also see moss stitch, I think. It looks like your knitting the purls and purling the knits rather than doing ribbing.

hmm, I’m just repeating knitting two and then purling two every row, is there something else I should be doing?

If you want to rib, and you end with a p2, you need to start with a k2.

If you end with a k2, you need to start with a p2.

I suspect that you’re ending with a k2 and starting with a k2.

Yep, that’s exactly what was going on. Is it ok that it ends with a k2 and begins? do I need to add stitches or just begin with purling 2?

It’s ok that it ends with a k2. You just need to start with a p2 in that case. After the pattern is established, you’ll see the ribbing and be able to knit the knits and purl the purls as they face you.

Thanks OH so much! I thought I was going crazy and not purling when I needed to or that I’d completely forgot to knit or somethin. :oo:

Well, now you know how to do moss stitch!

:roflhard: True, true.
