Working with Baby Clouds Yarn....Tips?

Good Morning!

I’m attempting to make this blanket:

I tried to make a swatch to check my stitch gauge but my problem is it’s so fuzzy that I’m finding it hard to see much less count the actual stitches.:hair: Sometimes when I pick up a stitch, I sometimes get the finer pieces of the stitch behind it that it feels like I’m ripping it from the stitch.:frog: Are there any suggestions for working with this type of yarn? I’m still a newbie knitter…lol

If you’re having trouble seeing your stitches, you may want to move up a needle size. Since it’s a baby blanket, size doesn’t matter much, and with bigger stitches, they’ll be easier to see.

You need to be very careful when using a yarn like this. It’s easy to split the yarn (pick up only part of the stitch), so you have to be very careful that you’re inserting your needle into the whole stitch.

I gave away the baby clouds yarn that I had. I couldn’t stand it.

a bigger needle size might help though.

Well 10’s are the biggest that I have and I’m not sure if I can find any bigger. I’m limited in what they carry here. But I’ll try to see if I can find some.

oh. yeah. I think i used size 13 and those worked pretty well for the yarn.

yeah… I think 10s would be hard to work with on this yarn and show the pattern off…I made a baby afghan from it and used 15s…

The pattern calls for using size 15s anyway, not 10s. 10mm = 15US

This yarn is tough to work with. I’ve used it for baby blankets and they turned out nice, but the process was hard!

In addition to going up needle sizes you might want to mark your stitches with stitch markers or place markers every 10 stitches so that you can visually see the stitch count and not have to “count” it. I find that very helpful with this yarn. The pointier the needle tips the more problems you’ll have too!

Good luck!

I can’t do this anymore!! I’m off to search for bigger needles!! lol Thanks guys!

Sue,

I totally missed that. I’m definitely going up in size!!

I’ve used Baby Clouds several times, it is hard to work with but the end product looks and feels great!

I believe the bigger needles will help, I also had to slow down when I was using the yarn, and also knit a little looser.

Good luck!

I don’t remember what needle size I used, but I made two baby blankets and both turned out beautifully…sorry I’m not more help…I also made a baby sweater and booties out of this yarn…I don’t think I would buy it again…

A blanket that I made out of the stuff was beautiful until it was dried in the dryer. Now it is all flat and icky feeling. I don’t know if I got a bad couple of skeins or that is just the nature of the yarn.

That’s good to know, I didn’t even think of the washing instructions…sigh
