Working into the cross loop (K1 tbl, k1, k1 tbl,k1)

Im working on my first cardigan (sweater) and the istructions reads:

work 4 into cross loop before foll st (=k1 tbl, k1, k1 tbl, k1).

Ok, I understand how to how to work one into the cross loop but 4 into cross loop I am not sure of. Lets see if I got this right.

Pick up the cross loop with left needle and knitt one through the yarn in the back of that loop, with out moving the loop over to the other needle I continue by knitting one in the front of the same loop that I had picked up then move it to the other needle. That would be k1 tbl, k1, right??

This next step is where I get a little comfused :?? ok ok a lot confused!

Next, I pick up the cross loop once again and start over. Or, do I continue knitting through the same loops over again until a total of 4 has been knitted?? Oh boy this is a doozie for me I have a big mess on my hands and I have pulled this one out 5 or 6 times, I have been Banging Head Against Wall on this one…HELP PLEASE :??

You are trying to work 4 stitches into a single loop.
Once you place the loop on the needle, you do not take that loop off the needle until all 4 stitches have been worked.
So work in the back, front, back and front of that loop.

Marnie, Thank you for the help, I seem to get it now… :happydance: I have done this but I picked up the wrong loop and it really looked funny with a big hole in it, then tried it with picking it up twice and did half of instructions and that didn’t look right ether, now I think I understand what I am to do  Thank you for the answer I was just about to put the whole thing on permanent hold

Whew! That whole thing could have really ruined your “knitting for sanity”!

What is the purpose of that stitch? Is it decorative, an increase or both?

Kemp asked: What is the purpose of that stitch? Is it decorative, an increase or both?
It is both it incresses and is part of the design!

The design has a p1 p1 k1 k1 p1 p1 the k1 is split and you end up with a V shape in the design. adding 4 new sticthes, I will try and see if I can get a pic posted so to show it to you…it might take me some time for I will have to ask my DH to help me.
