Working a row even

Could someone explain what the difference between “working a row” and “working a row even” is?

A pattern will often say ‘work a row even’ if you have been working increases or decreases. To ‘work a row even’ means to do that particular row with NO increases or decreases, staying with the same pattern that you have been doing, be it stockinette stitch, garter stitch, ribbing, or whatever.
