Work turning backwards?!

Okay,im getting really annoyed. I started a dishcloth and I got about half way done, and I noticed as I was :XX: it had turned backwards on my needle. So,after I freaked out a bit, I took it off the needle and tried to fix it. I ended up loosing alot of stitches. So, I moved on and trashed it. Well I started another dishcloth tonight and im about 1/4 through it and it did it again! Im doing such a pretty job and I hate to trash it. I was knitting away (watching for this to happen…)and It happened,it turned backwards! If I take it off and put it on the other way,my working yarn will be at the bottom instead the top! Does anyone know what I could be doing…or not doing?

The only thing I can think of is that you’re putting the work down in the middle of the row and then picking it up and knitting the wrong way. It happens to all of us in the beginning.

Make sure your working yarn is on the right needle when you restart in the middle of the row.

If you find it happens, you can unknit to the mistake, turn your work and continue on.

is there any video’s here about “unknitting”? i have been taking it off the needles…which i end up messing up the entire thing.

Unknitting is basically taking it off the needles one stitch at a time. Slide the first stitch off, pull it out, and slide it back on, then move to the next. It takes longer than just pulling them all off the needles and ripping out rows at a time, but if you catch the mistake early, it’s a way to fix it without risking ruining all your hard work.

A more foolproof way of un-knitting is to hold the yarn the same way you did when you made the stitch (in back for knit, in front for purl), stick the left needle in the loop below the stitch on the right needle, then take the stitch off the right needle, then pull on the working yarn slightly to unwrap it.

If you accidentally have the yarn on the wrong side when you do this, it won’t unwrap properly and you’ll have to take the stitch off the left needle and put it on the side where it goes.
