Hello! I’m knitting the stockholm sweater v-neck. I am knitting the first sleeve but the seam looks awfully puffy to me. The pattern instructs you to pick up roughly 2 stitches for every 3 rows.
Will the seam relax as I knit the sleeve longer (so it’s heavier…pulling it down)? Is it something that will go away after washing it? Do I need to block it out with needles?
The sleeve will pull down on that shoulder seam as you posted. You might pull on the sleeve now and see how it sits in the armhole opening.
The usual recommendation is to pick up 3sts for every 4 rows in stockinette. As far as I can see in the photo, your sleeve looks fine but straightening it out will help to see that. Petiteknit is a very careful designer so going with her instruction is all good.
You could transfer the stitches and markers onto a scrap theead so the fabric can properly stretch and then have a good look at it. Although you’ve worked away from the seam the fabric will still be effected by the needle holding the stitches. I think you’ll get a better idea of how it is, off the needle, and pulled into shape a bit (and pulling to give the effect of a heavier sleeve).
It looks ok to me (no expert though! I’ve been known to make 6 sleeves for 1 sweater!) But it’s hard to tell on a pic and it’s not my opinion that counts, but yours.
The yarn will likely relax when washed or blocked, you could try (depending on the wash label on the yarn band) a damp tea cloth laid over it and left to dry, or a light steam from a distance from an iron, or even to soak and dry this section, and see how the fabric relaxes.
Your knitting looks lovely, even and neat. Have you tried slipping your arm into the sleeve? You can go in through the neck into the sleeve just to make sure the opening is large enough and not constricting.
You’re very kind! And my arm definitely fits! Just worried about the seam from an aesthetic perspective/if it will stretch out as much as I stretched it for the photos
I’ve seen this with sleeves but they always relax and lose the puff when wet blocked and worn. What fiber are you using, wool, alpaca, acrylic or a blend?
