Will my Irregular Double Knit turn to Flat Ribbing

Hello Everyone, I’ve just started Double Knitting a beanie as was hoping to work stripes on one side and large checks on the other. Having just given it some thought, the sections where there is the same colour worked for the front and back (12 stitches or so x 8 rows), would that turn into Flat 1x1 Ribbing? If so, is there a way around it, I was thinking of attaching a second ball of the first colour to work those sections although that seems a bit laborious as I’d then need to attach a second ball of the second colour later on. I’d greatly appreciate any thoughts and possibly a point in the right direction.
Many thanks

Welcome to the forum!
You can do this by working two passes for the rows like this:

Do you have a particular pattern in mind or is this going to be your own pattern?

Gosh! so so simple, thankyou, clearly I didn’t think that through. And it certainly beats having to add extra balls to the project. I’ve never actually slipped stitches before when DKing so it didn’t occur to me.
It’s completely my own pattern, I’ve made a few DK beanies before but this is the first irregular one, and I just couldn’t get my head around it.
Thankyou again so much.

Have fun with your own pattern. I hope this one if followed by many more!
