Which yarn?

Hi everyone,

I’d like some opinions on which yarn to use…

I want to knit this pattern:

The pattern suggests using four strands of very expensive yarn, which sounds like a recipe for disaster to me!

I’m thinking I can probably handle two or even three strands (as I love the Navajo 3-Ply technique). Having done the maths for length and yarn weight I’ve come up with the following two options:

Drops Kid Silk:

Or

Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk:

Both of these yarns have a very similar composition to the yarn suggested by the pattern and they both look like they’ll be lovely to work with.

My question (finally!) is… what is the difference in appearance between knitting with 2, 3 or 4 strands? The yarns I am considering are both quite “fluffy” so I’m thinking that the difference wouldn’t be that noticeable. Am I right?

Any and all suggestions / opinions gratefully received!

It looks like 3 of the 4 projects for that sweater used the Kid Silk or Alpaca Silk and the sweaters seem very nice. Most of the time, it’s difficult to tell that multiple strands are used in a project especially with mohair. The strands blend together quite nicely.
As long as you can get gauge or a gauge that you can work with, it should be fine.

Much appreciated… and just the answer I was hoping for. Off to buy yarn :moneybag: = :yarn: = :grinning:
