Which rib pattern snugs more?

I’m wondering which simple rib snugs more out of-

p1,k1

k2,p2

k3,p3

in other words, does it fit more snugly with wider ribbing or thinner ribbing? I’m knitting those socks for my boyfriend and the K2, P2 is pretty loose. I’m going to switch down two needle sizes and maybe try a different pattern if anyone advises me to.

The wider the rib, the more it snugs.

I think 3/3 is the cuddliest…

would 4x4 ribbing work? or is that too thick for sock ribbing? This sock is made with light worsted weight so there’s only 28 stitches around. I can’t do 3x3 ribbing though

Hi Angela,

With only 28 stitches you can’t really do 4x4 ribbing. You’d need either 24 or 32 stitches for this.

One possibility would be 3 x3, with one 2x2 at the back.
Assuming your round starts at the back of the heel I’d:

K2, P3, K3, P3, K3, P3, K3, P3, K3, P2 around (28 stitches)

You’ll get mostly 3 x 3, with one “skinnier” rib right at the back of the heel.
