Hello. My name is Liz and I need to know if you begin with a center pull or work from the outside of the skein for a Mary Maxim Baby Blankie self-stripping blanket?
Where to start the yarn
Welcome to the forum!
Technically there are pros and cons for pulling from inside or outside.
Pulling from the outside lets the skein roll around which can lessen the effect of the yarn strand twisting. Pulling from the inside keeps the skein stable but can twist the yarn strand.
You might pull out several yards from either end to see if you would prefer one pattern or stripe for the end of the blanket.

Thank you for your answer. I am working with the yarn that makes a pattern, like flowers not just stripes. I can’t find anywhere that says where to begin to make the pattern.
More than likely the pattern repeats so you will have several repeats as you knit. You might try knitting a swatches, one from each end to see if one is better or preferable.
If you’re on Ravelry (free to join) there is an entry under Yarn for the Mary Maxim Baby Blankie. Over on the right are projects knit using the yarn. You might check on them and perhaps send a message to the makers or comment on a few, asking how they pulled from the skein.
Thanks for your help and the great ideas!
This sounds very interesting, do you have a link to the pattern or the name please?
Since pattern repeats of self-patterning yarns are based on stitch count and gauge I think the only reliable way to know which end you prefer to start with will mean starting the project and seeing how it works out.
Personally I’m not fond of working from the center and have been known to rewind balls into cakes and work from the outside.
Yes, that’s true but even a small swatch will give you an idea of whether you’re starting with a patterned section or a run of solid background color. It won’t show you exactly how the pattern aligns of course. It’s similar to the information from swatch on the page I linked to.
