Where can I get a dble pointed needle size 50?

That’s right!!! Size 50!!! I have a pair of size 50 in straights and circular but I’m going to be knitting a throw with cables and need something to use for a cable needle!!! This is what I’ll be knitting:

PLEASE let me know if you’ve got any ideas where I can get one or something else I can use!!

THANKS!

That will be nice. You don’t have to have a size 50 for the cable stitch holder, any size you find manageable and comfortable to work with would do. How many stitches will be involved in the cable crosses? If you’ll only have 2 or 3 sts off the needles at one time you might not need a cable needle. Youtube has lots of videos for cabling without a cable needle, Amy has one too as I recall. I’m trying to get an idea of what size 50 is like, telephone poles come to mind. :teehee:

Some hardware stores sell doweling. All lumber yards do. Buy some doweling slightly narrower than the #50 needles and have it cut (at the hardware store) to the length you want. (There may be a charge for cutting.)

Then take it home and “sharpen” it with a jack knife (I have a Swiss Army knife) and smooth the sharpening with some sandpaper so it won’t catch on the yarn.

Sounds like fun!

I’d say you already have what you need. Chances are you will be using the #50 cable to knit the afghan…so use one of the #50 straights for cabling. Just approach and pick up the stitches from the left and knit the cable from the right. If you have to you can put the cable stitches onto your right working needle and transfer them to the straight needle, then work your cable.

GG _ The pattern say size 50 - 25mm. An inch is 25.4mm . So the needles are just under an inch in diameter.

Thanks to everyone, especially JudyD!! I like your idea of using one of the straight needles. I never thought of moving the sts to the right needle first.

Problem #1 - solved!:cheering:
Now on to YARN SHOPPING!!!:woot:
