What's the best knit stitch book?

I’m probably limited to getting one knit stitch book, and I was wondering if there’s one out there that really stands above the rest. Can anybody make any recommendations?

I just got this one and it looks like so much fun! I can’t wait to truly dive in. I’ve already done a washcloth with one pattern:

Big Book of Knitting Stitch Patterns

It has nice big colorful pictures, which is very good for me.

Mod Squad was here (link shortened)

I got the Vogue Stitchonary a little while ago and they have some unique patterns. The only thing is, they don’t really have commentary on how to best use these stitches, ect.

I vote for 365 Knitting Stitches a Year. It’s a perpetual calendar, small, stays open to the pattern…

Hi Everyone,
Real crappy weather where I am. The running of the Boston Marathon should be interesting. I haven’t checked the news this morning but I can hear the wind really blowing.
I bought two books that I live with for help other than this web site. They are:
The Knitter’s Book of Finishing Techniques by Nancie M. Wiseman
and
The Knitting Directory by Alison Jenkins.

I have other books but these are two recent additions to my library. Most of the books and patterns I have date back to the 40ties and then from the 60ties to the the late seventies. Seems most of the patterns I find now are just new slants on old patterns that I already have in my library. There isn't much difference in the patterns just in the yarns now on the market.

Barbara Walker- A Treasury of Knitting Pattern. All of the pictures are in black and white but great stuff.

I vote for this too!

I have that calendar! I love it, and use it all the time

The Barbara Walker Stitch Treasuries, either volume one or two are the best imo. I’ve seen just about all of the stitch dictionaries around and own quite a few (I do some designing for myself) and the Barbara Walker one’s are the ones I would take to the desert isle if I was limited to one or two books.

I, too, vote for Barbara Walker’s Treasuries…i have 1 and 2 and hope to get the others! i also have the calendar, which is very good. A great thing about BWalker books is that they are published by Schoolhouse Press (a knitting company owned by meg swansen!) and you are allowed to use the st. patterns in your designs if you ask Schoolhouse Press for permission, then state that you did so, received permission and then credit the Barbara Walker book.

Barbara Walker"s stitchionary are my favorite.
Curently I am making blouse using one of her stitches. :happydance:
I have the calendar but have never used it.
