Whatcha' Knitting? March, 2026

Just a hint of spring to come here in the northern hemisphere after a rather frosty winter. All good times to wear those knit or crocheted items. What is on your needles or hooks and what projects have caught you eye for future possibles? Maybe not as large a project as this sweater.

Salmonmac, that is how much I knit to get one me-size sweater, 6 sleeves and 6 necks is about the average for me, so not far off this multiperson sweater!

I started knitting the Ester sweater by helenmoo / Skappel again. This time in off white with orange and muted brown - thought it might look like fading sunflowers in the autumn. I got up to the arm holes. However, the chemo drugs I’m on made me so sick I can’t even look at it. It’s now in a sealed bag until I can face looking at it again.

@Dawn2 So sorry to hear about the chemo. It is a tough time that you are going through. Hope it’s over soon and you are able to get back to better things. We are pulling for you. Gorgeous sweater and worth a wait till you are feeling up to it.

@Rose72 I’m sorry to hear that you keep getting sick. Be good to be over whatever it is and back to really feeling well. The V-shawl is going to be lovely is this luscious color.

Finally decided I need something very plain for this yarn I’ve had for 5 years, so I’ve started the Aran Garter Stitch Cardigan by Audrey Wilson. Dolman sleeves, worked from bottom edge of back up to neck/top of shoulder, then each side from shoulder down.

The white lines aren’t lifelines, just so I can keep count of the 72 rows before I cast on extra length for the sleeves. I’ll leave them in so I can be sure I work the same # of rows on the fronts.

I’m aiming on 1 sweater per cycle. So far I did Maddiken from Onling in no.3. Abandoned ester from skappel and trying to get twist loop in onling no1 and no.10 from other loops done in my next 10 days. Got wool & patterns stacked up for next 4 cycles.

By all means! Note that many people who have done this have run short of yarn, so buy an extra ball or two. This is possibly because “Aran” weight yarn is a pretty wide range. Looking at online charts, I see everything from 120 to 265 yds / 100 grams. So when the pattern says “5 balls of Aran weight”, that’s somewhere between 600 - 1325! Err on the side of caution!

Thanks for the info! You make an excellent point. My rule of thumb is to always add an extra skein…. I use the left overs for charity knit projects…. Happy knitting!

Looks beautiful!

Stunning graphic and beautiful sweater! Is the design from a Doodle Knit Directory?

I’m working on a Norwegian Cardigan pattern I found on Etsy from the shop Wooltime Fun. I’m not sure if that’s the creator of this pattern or not, there aren’t any notes on the downloaded pattern. Starting the yoke, it will take a while as I’m not a fast knitter especially with knitting colorwork flat!
