Whatcha' Knitting? April, 2025

Fantastic!
Every stage of a sweater is so exciting isn’t it?

My silver and grey spaghetti intarsia sweater is finished.

This was left over yarn from a previous project.
I used a couple of methods I found online to calculate an estimate of how much yarn would be needed. Both estimates were for just basic stockinette and I knew I would use more than this because I was working a lot of intarsia, so there was lots of extra yarn in all the million tails.
The two estimates were great to try out though.
345g and 333g
I had 225g of silver and 195g of grey, total 420g so decided I could do it.

The estimate for the back was 113g and the finished back weighed in at 124g. Really not bad I thought considering I’d never tried to calculate yarn like this before.
I forgot to weigh the front before seaming.
I used extra yarn on the sleeves, intentiinally working top down so that I could keep going for the extra long sleeve I prefer whilst also managing the remaining yarn.
I added a second rib hem which wasn’t calculated in the estimate. Overall a few little extras.
Total finished sweater weighs in at 369g
I’m amazed how close it was. I only went 24g over the estimate.
I have 5g of little tails remaining of the grey and 68g of silver remaining.
Glad I tried it out. It gave a new insight to the experience of yarn chicken!

Thanks so much.
It’s funny you mentioning the details. I am so particular about certain aspects having to be a certain way and I’ll remake things or reseam if something isn’t as I want it and I spend ages on little tiny parts, and yet my aim is also messy. The construction is very basic and I’m knitting on needles that are too big for the yarn which makes softer, messier fabric (tension isnt so neat on the bigger needle but i like it). I spent a long time making the stripes messy but I was particular about ensuring the front and back stripes would match exactly and having the sleeve stripes align to a certain degree, but not overly so.
I was gutted when the hem flipped but now I have the second hem on I really can’t imagine this sweater without it, it needed it! I added some crochet down the two hems too, and sewing, litte bits of details that might not show on the photo but I was so determined to include and glad I did. I do think I’ll enjoy wearing this one.
