What yarn is best for sweater

can you give me some suggestions about what yarn is best to use for a sweater.

I think it depends on the sweater–style, guage given, who it is for, cables or not, summer wt or winter wt, etc.

Can you give us a little more info on what kind of sweater you were planning?

Depends what you want - weight (thickness/heaviness), washability, etc.

Worsted or a DK yarn is a good all around weight to use; wool blends or superwash wool don’t need as much care in that you can machine wash them.

It’s probably easier to pick out a pattern first, then look at yarns for it.

i was thinking a pullover sweater. i want it to be soft and easy care.
thank you.

Soft and easy care probably means you want machine wash and dryable? Do you like wool? Are you on a budget? Are you allergic to wool? Will it have cables? Are you willing to shop online? It helps to have lots of information because there are SO many yarns available.

I think machine washable so a blend would be ok. no cables.
I think I would be open to wool, but i hate to hand wash things. i think my questions is too general. sorry. i just wanted a few suggestions on your favorite sweater yarn and why you like it.

Alpaca of course

Must confess i like arcylic best.

Its cheaper usually easy to knit with usually. machiene washable tumble dryable.

i knit for a 5 year old mainly can you tell

I’d go for a wool/acrylic blend, machine washable but still wool. It’s also slightly cheaper. Aran weight, or DK personally

If you like machine washable and you want it to be winter wt, I would go with a wool/arcylic blend or a superwash wool. I enjoyed knitting a shrug with Paton’s Shetland chunky recently.

thanks to all.
