Hi. Bootie has two sides to sole so these need to be joined up the middle (and up the back too). Mattress stitch will leave a lump. What is best stitch to use here? Thanks.

I use a whip stitch made from the outside of the bootie. With a tapestry needle, stitch into one loop of the cast on and out of one loop of the bind off, then repeat. It leaves a fairly flat seam.
Thanks. Did that and finished them off. Gave them to my daughter-in-law for my granddaughter (0-3 months size) and they are TOO SMALL! She is only 4 weeks old! Oh well, I know now that she has got big feet - so I will knit bigger next time! Enjoying knitting for her.

I’m so sorry they’re too small. When my son was born I didn’t think to put some hand crocheted booties on him at first and then when I did they were too small. I cried. (Post partum depression hit me hard.) Later I got to looking at his footprint and they never would have fit him. He still has big feet. LOL My daughter got to wear them and they were still new, not hand-me-downs. 
I’m still struggling with bootie sizes and my granddaughter is 2 years old. I’ve learned not to follow the pattern exactly or go by standard measurements. Most of the time, they are wrong. It’s not you. I think these measurements have been around forever when they grew babies smaller in the womb. Most of the women I know who have had babies lately have had 8, 10, and 12 pound babies. There must be something in the water. I think my baby weighed that much when she was six months old. But then, my biggest baby weighed 6 pounds even at birth, smallest 4-8 and 4-13 (preemie twins). The size charts lie. Best to measure or better yet trace the foot on a piece of white computer paper to take home with you
