Hi Everyone! Over 20 years ago I did a knitting class where they taught the technique for this scarf. I vaguely remember picking up stitches and perhaps turning my work… But that could be a false memory. :(. I have no idea where the pattern but have would love to revisit this technique. In advance, thank you for your help!
Can you take a full picture of it and google the picture, it will figure out where it came from. I think there is something at the top goggle that says picture, I’m not sure how to do it tho.
Thank you. Yes I did do a Google reverse image and wasn’t able to find anything.
This looks like join as you go squares to me. Is it a mix of garter and stockinette? I could probably figure out how to make the shape eventually via trial and error. Could you manage a clearer photo of the way it’s lying out in the first photo? I bet one of our geniuses will know exactly what to do when they see it.
It reminds me of entrelac knitting
That was my first thought. What it looks like to me is a knit version of entrelac crochet. I can’t find just an image right now but the thumbnail of this video should show what came to mind.
The stitch direction changes in entrelac more than in the original scarf though, doesnt it?
There is this pattern but again the stitches are going the wrong direction (or seems so to me)
I dont know entrelac, is it possible to work in strips of garter and stockinette rather than squares at right angles to one another?
I wonder if it begins as a strip (or rather a square), then picked up along one edge to make another strip as an applied border. The applied border making the second strip, then that strip having an applied border which is the third strip etc.
I added some photos below. I’m sorry for my delayed response. It was many, many moons ago but I think it was just knitting and picking up stitches and perhaps changing direction? I don’t think I did purling and looking at it now it doesn’t seem to be purling but it’s hard to remember.
That looks super close, thank you!! I do believe it started with a square and I think I can identify which square it started on.
Very interesting pattern. One way you could work it is like this. Starting at the bottom most square, work across the rows changing the pattern as you would like (garter, stockinette, reverse stockinette). When you have rows of squares, cast on for more squares. When you like the total width, begin casting off squares on one edge, casting on at the other edge.
If you start with a single square at the bottom, then add 3 full squares, you’ll more accurately mimic the pattern you have (the bottom square won’t sit between two squares as in my diagram but will have a full square over it in the next row).
Oh yes that photo of your knitting is clearer.
Salmonmac’s design sketch will be the answer.
I hope you will share your new version, or progress pics as you work it up.
Is the mystery solved? I think salmonmac nailed it. The pattern Creations linked looks a lot like your photos. Thanks for the clearer photos. Very helpful.
Thank you!!! That was a lot of work you did and I appreciate your time, energy and expertise! :). I will print out your design.
I think so!!
Will do!
