My grandma taught me how to knit with dpns many many years ago, but I never really liked it – I always pulled the yarn too tight at the joins in my efforts not to have a gap. When I learned about using 2 circular needles 2 years ago after I knit my first pair of socks, eureka!
I love the fact that you can just stuff the sock-in-progress into a baggie or purse without worrying about stitches dropping off the needles. As long as the circs are short (16" or so), the non-working needle doesn’t really get in the way.
I’m in the “you’ll pry my DPNs out of my cold, dead, fingers” club.
I am in your club. I love DPN’s, now that I have the hang of it.
The other bonus to dpns is that they are sharp, pointy objects that freak your DH out so much he lets you sit on the couch by yourself:roflhard:
I was itching to learn how to do socks. So I went and bought a pack with a few sets of dpns (00, 0, 1, 2, 3) So I found a fuzzy slipper sock pattern on Lion Brand’s website (I LOVE their free patterns) and sat down and keep doing the begining over and over till I got it. By the time I was done, I almost would say I like knitting in the round using dpns better than doing straight knitting. For some reason it came easier to me than when I was first learning how to knit.
Now if only I could find a way to knit a sweater on dpns… LOL
