What is this called and how to do it?

I think I have seen a patern with this effect but don’t know where I saw it or what it’s called and can’t find it again (probably because i don’t know what it’s called).

When there is a rib hem on a sweater but from under the hem is another hem which peaks out, making it look like you’re wearing a knitted top underneath the sweater but it’s actually part of the sweater.
Like a shumper has a faux shirt coming from the sweater, but instead of a shirt it would be a knitted piece.

Any ideas?
Any patterns?

Even if there is no name, how would I go about this?
Pick up somewhere near the top of the original rib on the WS and knit top down for the second rib hem?
Or maybe knit a seperate rib hem and sew it into the sweater? Where would it seam to and what sort of seam would I use?

It may be that what you’re describing is a tuck, a kind of horizontal fold or hem (not to be confused with the tuck stitch).

It’s also shown in this tutorial (see very end).

Hiya. Joji has a pattern like this - attached.

You complete the garment. Then you pick up 1:1 stitches from the wrong side at the junction of body and hem using the main colour. Then you turn the work and change to your contrast yarn and work whatever extension you want!
Just be careful that you turn so that the right side shows!!!

Thanks so much.

The 1:1 pick up, turn, and work down is probably what I need. Thanks, I’ll try it.

Hey all, just stopping by to give an update.
The layered/tierd/faux hem worked great. I picked up with a needle just a bit smaller than my stockinette body then went down to my rib size needle and worked some irregular rib.
I have some sewing to do but this gives an idea of where it’s heading. The layered rib was an idea to solve my flipped hem problem and it does that.
Here’s the flipped hem (totally pointing up!) and the layered hem before tacking down

And here is a part I have tacked down, I can do it invisibly

Thanks everyone who helped me.
