Hi,
I am really new for knitting. Currently I am working on knitting a striped Cardigan on straight needle start from bottom to top. And now I’m struggling on some terminology in the pattern as listed below.
Stitctes note
× k2,p2 rip (for edges)
× stocking stitches (throughout the rest of the work)
Questions
- On ‘Back’, what does the following instructions mean ?
" On each edge: on foll 20th rows, cast off 1 st once and on foll 18th rows, cast off 1 st 3 times "
My understanding is knitting to 20th row cast off 1 st on both edges -> start counting next row as 1st and work till 17th rows -> on 18th row cast off 1 st on both edges and repeat “**” twice more.
- On ‘Sholders’
" On each edge, cast off; 5 sts 3 times and 6 sts once"
My understanding is row 1- 3 cast of 5 sts on both edges and row 4 cast off 6 sts.
Thank you very much for your help and I do really appreciate.
Kind regards,
Nu

That’s the way to work this. Yes, repeat every 18th row 3 times total.

This is a bit trickier to work. You can really only cast off at the beginning of a row. Typically you would bind off 5sts at the beginning of row 1 and 5sts at the beginning of row 2. Then repeat 2 more times (rows 3-6) then cast off 6sts at the beginning of rows 7 and 8.
" On each edge, cast off; 5 sts 3 times and 6 sts once"
Is that exactly the way the instruction reads?

Yup, you had it exactly. I’d still go with casting off at the beginning of the rows as I listed above.
What is the name of your pattern?

Hi,
Attached here is the full pattern, it is called EMMA Cardigan, I thought that looks managable for the beginner but seems like I am struggling a lot
Could you please help with one more thing, what it means “mark slv sts on each edge” in the armholes section ?
Does it mean I can work as pattern shown but just put safty pin to mark on the each of knitted stitches to remind where the sleeves will be attached ?
Thank you very much for your help.

Edit : pattern been deleted accidentally to copyright
Yes, that’s exactly it. When you get to the finishing, those markers will show you where to attach the ends of the sleeve caps.
I deleted some of the pattern because we can’t post large portions of patterns due to designer copyright. You might edit some of the remaining pattern using the pencil icon in the lower right of your post. Many thanks and enjoy working this pattern.
