What does instep mean?

After several tries I think I have finally got the heal to look the way it is suppose to but now I am stuck again…

I am here on this pattern:

Slip 22 instep sts onto one needle.

What does instep mean? :shrug:

Any help would be great…I am really hoping to be able to finish a pair of socks…Thanks

Thank you vary much…Makes it so much easier when I know what the words mean…I hope to get the hang of this so I can make lots of socks for my 4 kids…lol :hug:

Interesting brendajos because my family always refer to the instep as the part that covers the arch of the foot. I realise now in knitting it’s indeed say where you tie the shoelaces!

That’s what i always thought too actually… it was why i couldn’t make socks make sense when i first started making them. If we are right and it is the otherr part of the foot i am not going to think much about it or i would never be able to make another sock! :teehee:

I think they should just leave out the word “instep” in sock knitting instructions, because it’s never made sense to me either. They should just say, “down the top of the foot”. :?

I tend to agree Shandeh as it would mean people would all look at the pattern with common and clear understanding.

Yeah! Imagine that! A knitting pattern that is easy to understand. :?

I don’t know why some knitting designers choose to flaunt their vocabulary or intelligence in a knitting pattern. Keep It Simple Stupid! :teehee:
