What does 'bump' mean?

I have a question- what does ‘bump’ mean??

In what context?

In knitting, I think of “bump” meaning the little, well, bump made by a purl stitch, as opposed to the flat “V” made by a knit stitch.

Am I understanding your question right?

If you just see the word “bump” in a post, it usually means that person who typed it wants to bump a post to the top of the list to draw attention to the topic again.

For example, if you see a post the was started in Jun of last year and you want the forum to talk about it again, you just post a reply with “bump” in it …

Let me see if I can find a good bump for you …

Thanks, guys!!

Aaaah, a forum bump!

Originally, b.u.m.p stood for “bump up my post”. It’s used to revive a thread that has not had responses in a while, to make it more visible to people who may not have seen it, or solicit more responses to a thread.

It’s fairly standard across all online forums.

Dang, I just outed my geekness, huh?

and over the pond…it’s a pregnant belly. :roflhard:

you can tell I teach…I was thinking of it in the context that my students use it, which basically means “crap” or something like that…

ex: “Bump! I dropped a stitch”

LOL… :roflhard: …I crack myself up.

Showing my age… Bump is a dance done to Barry White music…

I asked my husband what he thought “bump” meant and he said, “well, either the thing you always hit in the road or the way I renew a thread on penciljack…” LOL… :roflhard:
