What does a pattern mean by "Break Yarn"?

I am a beginner knitter, please help.

It means that you can cut the working yarn now since you won’t be using it from that position anymore.

Whay can’t they just say cut yarn?

Thank you! :notworthy:

I always wondered about that myself

Probably a hold over from a long time ago. Scissors used to be quite expensive, and worsted weight wool yarns are actually quite easy to break by hand. I sometimes break my yarns with my hands when I have no scissors handy. It’s tough with acrylic, but doable.
