What do I do with the excess long tail?!?

Hi Everyone!!!

I’m just about to finish my first knitting project, a scarf, but I have a couple questions about how to finish it up before I give it away as a Christmas gift. First, I followed the video for ‘Long tail cast on’, and was wondering what the appropriate binding off method is for that so that the 2 ends of the scarf look the same. Also, I still have about 9 inches of long tail left from the casting on, and I’m not sure how to tie or get rid of it without the whole scarf unraveling. Please help if you have any ideas. Thank you!!!

As for weaving in the ends. Here is an article form knitty.com that I use all the time for this purpos.

And here is another article with different bind offs that mimic cast ons. Bind offs.

I think that the sewn bind off is the one that matches the long tail cast on the most. Others may correct me on this though, because I am not 100% sure.

Don’t cut the tails without weaving the end in for several stitches. I use the same method as the Knitty site.

Thread the tail through the sts for a couple inches before you cut them, then they’re hidden and won’t pop out.
