I really like to knit and I really liked to quilt (I just don’t have as much time to sit at the sewing machine and so I knit more because knitting is more portable), but boy, I sure don’t like all of the math involved! :ick: Math was never a strong point for me in school and it’s still not.
So I was looking over this link that somebody posted about faroese shawls, and while it’s a great link with lots of detailed information, my head is swimming because of all of the math calculations! :whoosh: To further discourage me, when I did a Google image search about these shawls, all of these beautiful, intricate shawls are coming up, and then I see “Nordic” in their descriptions, I really panicked, because “Nordic” for me translates into “intricate and hard” (as well as “beautiful”, of course!).
So, are these shawls really worth all of the calculating? I mean, if I were to tackle one, I would feel a sense of accomplishment before I even knit the first stitch, just for filling in all of the blanks of the worksheet correctly!
Can a faroese shawl be made from just simple garter stitch with a lace edging of some sort? Do these shawls truly fit nicer than traditional triangular shawls? How do you pronounce “faroese”? Lastly, is this shawl considered a faroese shawl because of the way it drapes/fits?
