What a shame

Contemplating my next project. I often need to try my yarn out with more than one pattern before I decide what I’m making as the yarn doesn’t always want to be what I initially thought it would be.
Well, I was going to swatch this quite flamboyant reverse stockinette intarsia sweater by Arne and Carlos when I realised the colour work chart doesn’t align at the side seams.
What a shame!
The finishing notes say to match up colours carefully at the side seams when seaming with mattress stitch, a pointless comment when it hasn’t been designed to align.

Darn it. Love the colorwork. I had saved it already, probably in case I wanted to use the chart for something, sometime.

Yes, I’ve had it saved for quite a while too.
Do you also have this

I thought with it being a cardigan it would be sure to match up at the side seams as the chart just needs to run on and the pattern can jog or beeak at the buttonband, but no the sides do not match at all.
Sigh.

Thanks for the link. I do have that one saved. Currently I’m playing with teddy bear ear construction. One of those charts worked in a bear’s body might be doable. If not one of those I’m sure I can find another. The bear I’m doing now will be seamed and I’ll only do stranded work in the round so I’ll have to use another pattern. The soft toys rabbit hole is a deep one with many a twist and turn.

GG, Did you have to put ‘stranded work’ and ‘bear’ in the same sentence? Do you know the wormhole I just fell in?

My work here is done. :joy: I have to save the link for later. It looks amazing. I’m sure it will be enjoyable. Did I have to put them in the same sentence? Good question.

Wow, that’s not even centered in any coherent way. I’m not sure there IS a center, but it just looks…off.

After my cuppa joe I was able read and enjoy the article. The story of grandad’s jumper bear was really touching. Thanks for the link. I’ve shared it with friends.

I don’t mind the asymmetry, in fact it’s one of the things that draws me to it. I was thinking of reducing the number of motifs, bit too busy for me, and changing the colours… but it really does bother me that the motifs just cut off at the seams in both the sweater and cardigan. I see no good reason.
So… I could use the chart and redesign to place a motif across the seams, or work in one so there is no side seam.
I haven’t tried a swatch yet. The swatch will be the decider.
