Welcome to the KnittingHelp forum! ...Introduce yourself!

The term “ply” can be very deceptive. In the US, it means the # of strands that are twisted together in the yarn, but in the UK it is an indicator of the thickness of the yarn. UK 4-ply is what we would call Sport weight, UK 8-ply or Aran equates to worsted. And Australian terms differ yet again.

I found this very confusing when using a fingering-weight yarn with 8 strands!

Here’s a handy chart:

And I am in Colorado–Westminster, near Denver.

The sad thing is the yarn came directly from Peru, so anything I buy here will be different to a degree. The pattern is from Etsy so I have no designer name other than it is from Australia. I may not pursue this pattern and find something that fits the 4 ply Indiecita DK. Thank you for your thoughts.

That’s a wise decision. This sounds like lovely yarn and you want to use it where it can shine.

Do you have a link to the pattern on etsy? Sometimes we can find a designer or a similar style pattern in a different yarn weight if you need to change patterns.

Hi, I am Sarah and I just started knitting. I know basic cast on, cast off and knit and purl from my childhood when my Granny tried to teach me to knit (without much success!). A friend started a year ago and she is knitting amazing things now so she inspired me - however, I am quite frustrated because I seem to go wrong a lot (dropping stitches and making extra ones accidentally!) and the videos I have watched re picking up dropped stitches don’t bear any resemblance to what my knitting looks like:)) I do enjoy it as it is relaxing so just doing a chunky wool blanket made of squares of different stitches to get some practice. I hope that I will improve to the point of being able to make jumpers but I am pretty rubbish at the moment! I hope to get some tips from you experienced knitters out there x

Welcome to the forum and back to knitting!
It’s frustrating in the beginning. One thing that helps is to count sts after every row. The sooner you catch a mistake, a dropped stitch, an accidental yarn over, the easier it is to fix.
Keep practicing. A blanket is a good way to do that. And be patient with yourself. And did I mention practice?
We’re glad you joined us becaue we’re here to help.

Hello! I’ve been knitting less than a year and sometimes I feel like I’ve made little progress and sometimes I realise I’m making things I wouldn’t have dared to a year ago (even if they look a bit ropey up close). You’ve got the most important thing down though - enjoying it! The rest will come. The helpful peeps on here have been utterly wonderful!

The rather sparse pattern details refer to DK yarn so you might try your yarn and see if you match or come close to the pattern gauge. It’ll give you an idea of how your lovely yarn knits up and what the knit fabric is like. Great looking pattern!

Looks like you’re in luck, the pattern calls for DK with a gauge of 22 sts per 10cm, which matches the yarn you have. This seller has provided an image of yarn and tension requirements.

I would make decent sized swatch and wash/block to check your gauge and that you like the drape before starting the project.
Nice sweater, are you going for the different colours or all one colour to show off the texture?

Sleeve increase help
Following instructions are confusing me :
Inc1st at each end of 5th and 7(1:1:4:10) foll 6th rows then on every foll 8th.
Do I increase either end of 5th and 7th rows then 6th row after the 7th I.e row 13, and then 8rows after that I.e row 21 and then every 8 after that?
Thanks

Welcome to KnittingHelp!
What size are you making, first, second, third…?
For the first size for example, call the first increase row, row 5. Increase at each end of rows 5, 11,17,23,29,35,41 and 47 (that’s the 7 following 6th rows). Then increase on rows 55,63,71,79,87,95 and so on until the instructions say to stop (that’s every 8th row).

Hello to you all. I am Harold and I live in the province of New Brunswick, which is in Eastern Canada. I am 82 years young and am more or less a self taught crocheter. Over the years I have made in excess of 20 tablecloths - some round by round and others thatvwere many motifs croched ttogether. I have many hobbies and crocheting is one of a few favourites.
What brought me here? I am on the hunt for a lost pattern for a round tablecloth - Enchanted Forrest - which is a topic of discussion here on the knitting help forum. The link that I have appears to be not working and as this is supposes to be a replacement tablecloth for my wife. I made on for her and we gave it to a friend. If anyone reading this post has access to the pattern, i would greatly appreciate it if you could share it with me.
Thanks in advance
Harold

Was it this?

Unfortunately, all of the links I’ve found go to Crochet Pattern Central, and the link is broken. In fact, none of the links that should go to pattern websites seem to be working.

Welcome to the forum!
I agree with ColoCro, the links in different sites seem to be broken. Even the wayback machine couldn’t find it. You might try Ravelry (free to join). They have a group called the Pattern Detectives which is very helpful.

Hi Harold from Nova Scotia!

If the picture ColoCro provided is the right tablecloth someone in Guelph has the booklet for sale on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/235933625439 for $5.50US+$2.75US shipping.
Cheers and good luck in your hunt!

Thank you for the lead on the tablecloth pattern. @Harold see above post

Hi All!
Knitting has become a big part of my life since retiring 6 1/2 years ago. I find knitting not only productive but also a wonderful and calming distraction from the craziness of the world today. My growing yarn stash got me into weaving which during Covid lockdown led to another hobby - spinning. I have no room for my floor loom at the moment so it’s full on knitting! I’m self taught mainly using the internet as I’m a visual learner. I’m also an avid motorcyclist having crossed the continent numerous times on 2 wheels and can usually pull a sock knitting project out of my tank bag when stopped for long periods due to construction or accidents.
