I’m knitting a garter stitch dolman sleeve pattern worked side to side cuff to cuff. I’ve got to the neck (divided) & for the shaping the instructions tell me to “pass 2 stitches purl wise with yarn in front & continue knitting until 2 stitches remain then pass the last 2 stitches again purl wise with yarn in front.”
Repeat decreases on every 2nd row a total of 10X - so this means my return row will be a straight knit.
When I get to the slipped stitches, do I knit those 2 stitches together as 1 stitch to make the decrease?
I’ve never seen a decrease like this anywhere, has anyone got experience with this?
Weird slip stitch decrease - help?
What is the name of your pattern and designer?
This sounds more like a variation on an i-cord edging than a decrease. In that case you would knit the 2sts so that on the next row you can slip them. The stitch count would stay the same.
Are there any earlier directions for decreases?
It’s a free pattern from bcgarn.com, design by jetty slente downloadable from lovecrafts.com
Previous rows were increases for the sleeves, then 34 rows straight.
then
"Divide work in two for neck. Work across the first (103) Sts, k2tog, k2, turn
then the Pass 2 stitches as if to purl part that I’m questioning.
After the “repeat decrease on every 2nd row 10X” you work straight for 28 rows
Because it says "repeat decrease on every 2nd row I can’t think it means anything different than a decrease for those 2 passed stitches.
Thoughts?
What’s the name of the pattern? Maybe then I can find it.
as above: free pattern by bcgarn.com downloadable from love crafts.com Title: Garter Stitch Jumper Sarah Tweed
I find this one that might be it.
The photos are too small for me to see well and it’s making my head hurt so if that’s not it, I can’t find it.
Yes that’s it. The download is in big print online
Actually the decrease is k2tog:
k2tog, k2, turn then the Pass 2 stitches as if to purl
As I mentioned the slip sts are to create the edges. The k2tog is the decrease to repeat every 2nd row 10 times.
Thanks for the pattern information and GG, thanks for the link.
Since I have to log in then the pattern is saved to my library I didn’t want to download multiple patterns. I had to read it more than once to see what the pattern is actually saying to do. It’s good they don’t have the decrease right on the edge.
Thank you SO MUCH! I was completely lost. The pattern is danish & I thought it was some odd way of doing a decrease. Couldn’t have got there without you so thank you. I’ll likely be back for more help toward the end but off to do some tinking to get back to where I should be & start again.
That’s a great sweater. I’ve been looking for a sweater this shape, although not sideways khit. I downloaded it but looking at the pattern is too confusing, too brief for me I think.
Hope to see your finished project.
Do come back if you need help. It’s a lovely sweater and it’ll be fun to finish and wear!
thank you I definitely will & hope to post a photo when its done.
I say give it a go! You’ll get great help here as I’ve just proved if you need it along the way. I’m really enjoying knitting it. I actually altered the sleeve to a rib before the increase to dolman so it’ll be slightly different but I just tend to plunge in & try anything. It’s worth it.
Personalized knits. Aren’t you glad the knitting police don’t come and lock us up for it? I rarely work a pattern exactly as written.
You crease me up. I should be breaking rocks if anyone could catch me.
