I’m trying to find weird things to knit as novelty gifts for my family for Xmas!
I’ve already knitted - a handgrenade for one son (soldier), a garter for my soon to be daughter-in-law, and an eye mask for my stressed daughter!
But I still need the following:
another son is a PE teahcer, and I thought about knitting a whistle, but can’t find a pattern
and another one is into either rugby or his guitar, so I’ve been looking for patterns for either a rugby ball or a guitar. So far, no luck but can anyone help please as there just seem to be masses of websites out there and time is ticking on. I don’t crochet so it really does have to be a knitting pattern please.
The rugby ball should be pretty easy. Just make elliptical panels, then stitch them together and stuff it. I’m thinking stockinette stitch. Cast on 1 stitch, then gradually increase so it doesn’t get too fat too fast. Do you have a rugby ball to look at? If not, do a Google search and choose “images”. Maybe you should make a cloth or paper template first, to make sure the shape is right, then knit to that.
I can imagine a whistle made by knitting a strip the right width, then rolling it up for the fat part, but I’m afraid it would just look like a snail without some distinctive markings. Maybe a monogrammed whistle case with a little toy whistle in it would work instead.
