I am a newbie and have looked everywhere on the net for one simple question…
I get the “three needle bind off” but what I don’t get: when picking up the stitches from the start of the mitt, do I create new stiches as “picking up” entails or do I simply use the loops from the original stitching???
:?? :?? :??
I want to do them the way the author directs… can anyone help?
Is it that you’re unsure how to pick up stitches?? If that’s the case, take a look at the video on this page near the bottom, under the heading ‘Assorted Topics’.
If not, could you be more specific about what the pattern is asking?
Hello knitqueen, sorry if I am unclear… I have viewed picking up stitches but Melanie Falick (author) sounds like you are to just use the “loops” and not actually pick up stitches like the video. Sshe calls them “loops” and the later calls them “picked up stitches” , but if I “pick up the stitches” the yarn and needles are in the wrong direction to work with…
FINISHING
"With needle several sizes smaller (optional) , pick up the following number of loops from CO edge:…
Hold the needle with the live sts so that the wrist edge is at the right hand side of the needle, hold the needle with the picked-up sts parallel to and in front of the needle with the live sts. Use the three-needle method to bind off the sts together as follows: "
(after this I understand the directions of knitting both sts together and then BO… )
It is just when i try the “video method” the yarn and the needle points end up at opposite sides… :??
Picking up stitches (as the video demonstrates) is the only way that I know of. I think that’s what she means. If your needle point and yarn are ending up on opposite sides, could you just pick up the stitches starting from the other end of that ‘row’?? Or, use a double pointed needle so that you can knit from either end, depending on where your working yarn ends up?
I wish I had the book in front of me - I’ve only ever borrowed it from the library. If my answers don’t make sense to you, let me know and I’ll find someone that has the book who can maybe understand it a bit clearer with the page in front of them.
Knitqueen and Ingrid thanks alot!! I think I might try the loops first, since I am anxious to finish one… Then if that doesn’t work, I’ll get some double pointers…
I just wanted to do it the way the pattern directs (figured I should follow the pattern exactly) til I know what I am doing.
