I have a little bit different take on this. I’m a UConn grad undergrad and law. Although I’m proud of my law school education, I remain convinced to this day that my undergrad education was inferior. My family could not afford anything else but UConn. (Even the basketball team wasn’t all that great then.) A great law school does get you a shot at a prestigious firm, but so does top ranking at a good school. In the end, your law career hinges more on how hard you work and your talents after you leave law school than what school you graduate from. On the other hand, your undergrad experience is a once in a lifetime chance. Just so you know, I’ve put my money where my mouth is. My older son went to Penn and my younger son is going to Washington University in St. Louis. Both great schools and both very expensive. They both have treasured the time they spent there.
