My sister knit me this pretty scarf from Fun Fur, which is kind of a miracle because she is usually only a crochet person. I am (naughty) a smoker! I am wondering how I wash this scarf so that when she comes to visit me, or when I visit her, the scarf she made so lovingly for me does not smell of smoke (which she hates)! I believe this yarn is 100% acrylic. Could anyone help me please?
Handwash, cool water, lay flat to dry. Some fur yarns feel rough when they are washed, but usually soften up again when dry.
As hocns said, and if it’s not fluffy when it dries, you can toss it in the dryer with a fabric softener sheet. I’ve washed a lot of fun fur (but still can’t get the coffee stain out of that one mitten cuff. It WOULD have to be the white one…)
some fluffy yarns (eg Sullivan’s favourite) are REALLY sensitive to heat. if you want to soften without a tumble dryer (Or don’t have one/don’t know to work one) rub the matterial against itself in your hands. it crushes the “fur fibers” to make them soft again. just make certain it’s 110% dry or it can matt
Yeah, my ex tossed a bunch of fun fur scarves in the washing machine by mistake… don’t do that… it’s not pretty…:whoosh:
