Good morning! I just completed a basket weave scarf for my Dad in Vanna’s Choice on sz. 8 needles. He and my brother are huge Wake Forest fans and go to all the home basketball games each season. I have almost an entire skein of black and another of gold (mustard) and thought I’d make my brother a scarf as well.
There is no way I am going to do another basket weave, though. It took waaaay too long and I simply don’t have the time. I was thinking of making a 2x2 rib, but wonder if that can be done in two colors? Maybe a large section of black, with a smaller section of gold that repeats the length of the scarf?
My other thought was to get some Homespun in black and another in gold and knit a simple garter stitch scarf with the two held together. I just wanted to avoid purchasing more yarn if possible.
I’ve seen a lot of ribbed scarves with stripes. Just make sure you start the new yarn on the same side everytime. I did a long ways scarf for my brother in Virginia Tech colors it looks like racing stripes. Here is a similar pattern It was a pretty quick knit since it was garter stitch. The worst part was casting on so many stitches! I’m pretty sure it took me a weekend to knit it and I was a fairly slow knitter at that point. It it only 14 rows or so of knitting.
Don’t forget Silver’s Palindrome scarf It’s a love easy cable scarf which is reversible. You can always do a lengthwise scarf where you cast on 200-300 stitches (depending on your gauge) and knit in stripes long ways doing a garter stitch.
I did a Green Bay Packer scarf for a neighbor in the rib knit with kelly green and gold. I did a k2, p2 rib pattern, 8 rows in green and 4 in gold until desired length. It turned out great. I would post a pic, but I already gave it to her. Now the whole family (five more) want Packer scarves, but each wants their own unique design. That has challenged my creativity!!! I’m on my last one which I’ve done double strand with both colors in garter stitch. I’m not as happy with it as the others. I think it has made it too stiff, but it’s colorful. Another one I did was striped length wise. I cast on 250 stitch on 10 1/2 circlular needles, 29". In garter stitch, I did two rows green and 1 gold, then 4 green, 2 gold, 2 green and 1 gold. I like it best of all six.

I would do the 300 stitch scarf that is just stockinette for 3 or 4 rows, then change to reverse stockinette in the oposing color, then switch again
that way you have long thin stripes of stockinette with each color one each side, but it looks SO neat when they spread a little
let me fnd the patterns and edit it into thos post
