Vest/tank top

I’ve just started knitting a vest/tank top for myself and it’s in reverse stocking stitch. But the colours I’ve chosen look better on the normal side of stocking stitch.Could I carry on with the pattern till armhole shapings and v- neck and work on the normal side of stocking stitch instead? With the normal stocking stitch being at the front instead of reverse if that makes sense.

What is the name of your pattern and designer? You may well be able to use the stockinette side as the right side (RS) of the vest but it will help to see the pattern.

I can’t find any details as it was out of a magazine but here’s a picture of it helps.

Knit in pieces and seamed, bottom up. It looks like others on Ravelry have worked this with the stockinette side showing. You can certainly let the stockinette or V side show to the outside.

You know you won’t get the cute little stripes where the colour change produces a thin purl bump stripe if you change to all stockinette. Maybe you don’t like those thin stripes which is fine.
I like the purl bump stripes in this design, they are really well thought out and produce a lovely extra detail. What I don’t like is purl bump colour changes which appear to be mistakes or lack of design/planning, but here the design is intentional.

If you do like them you could try a swatch with a couple of transition rows where you purl on the RS for one row as you change colour.

So after a big cock up on my part i.e not checking sizes and actual size I finally finished my vest.i actually went down to the second size. I checked my guage and everything the sizes all checked out with the pattern. But after a final try on I’m finding it’s a little wide but correct with the pattern. The colours I did after trying to untangle the first mistake aren’t exactly what I wanted. So although I will wear it I wanted to do another but I’m wondering if I could go down to the next smaller size as it is baggy. Could anyone advise please.

Check the gauge you’ve got on the vest. If it’s still spot on the pattern gauge, then you can look at the measurements for the next smaller size and see if that works. If the gauge is off you could consider trying a smaller size needle to make the same size vest in a better fit. Working a good sized swatch with the new needles will help you decide if you like the knit fabric.
I’m sorry that the vest isn’t the size you wanted but it’s good that you can wear it anyway. By the way have you washed and blocked the vest?

Sorry for the late reply all washed and blocked but it never made any difference since this post I have now knitted another with some changes.so I went for the smallest size this time but I also altered the fit a little. I decreased a total of 8sts over approx 40 rows and then added them back before coming to the neckline. I also decreased the amount of stitches for the shoulders by 4 and I love it I’m now on to the third one becoming a addict to these. This is the original .

This looks good, nice stripes! It’s great to be able to modify patterns to how you want them, it sounds like you’ve mastered getting the size you want. I seem able to knit to the size I plan but not know what size I really want… still learning.
